These winemakers are not afraid to take chances. Clos des Fous, or “Vineyard of Fools,” is the project of four friends determined to explore high-altitude viticulture. “I think we earned the name when we started going up in the mountains and planting vines without irrigation,” said Francisco “Paco” Leyton, 36, the quartet’s winemaker. “People said we were crazy.”
How different soils make for different styles of Chilean carmenere: “Where you stand on carmenere depends on where you sit. Younger soils, alluvial soils, tend to produce simple wines with less complexity of tannins. Wines from ancient mother-rock soils — soils like limestone, schist or granite — are quite different. When the rock is hard, the wines tend to have tight structure, but when the rock breaks up and there is more clay in the soil, the tannic structure gains roundness and the wine is more immediately approachable.” — Marcelo Papa, winemaker for Casillero del Diablo and Marques de Casa Concha, Chile.

In the remote Elqui Valley of northern Chile, Mayu winery produces a racy sauvignon blanc and a fruity, refreshing white from Pedro Ximenez, a grape best known for sherry. In the Limari Valley, Merino winery produces one of the silkiest syrahs I’ve tasted in a long time. J. Bouchon produces energetic Bordeaux-style reds from vineyards along the Maule River in central Chile. Chardonnay lovers should seek out the electrifying Sol de Sol, made by Aquitania winery from grapes grown on steep slopes in Malleco Valley, Chile’s southernmost new wine region.
The story behind one of Chile's most famous wines began more than 120 years ago. Don Melchor, founder of Concha y Toro, stored batches of his best wines in an underground cellar. When he noticed that bottles had been stolen, he spread a rumour amongst the locals that a devil lived in his cellar. Hence the name of Casillero del Diablo, the devil's cellar. Since 2008, Diablo wines have received more than 80 awards from internationally recognised competitions, including 8 Gold medals and 18 Silver medals.
9. Bishop Castle: Located along Highway 165 in San Isabel National Forest in Custer, the weird and wacky Bishop’s Castle is totally unique. It’s a medieval castle in cowboy country constructed by one man, Jim Bishop. When he was age 15, Mr. Bishop bought the 2 1/2 acres of land in 1959 for $1,250. The structure that started as a family cabin in June 1969 grew over 37 years into the castle visitors see today.

In the past, Denver has been home to several other airports that are no longer operational. Stapleton International Airport was closed in 1995 when it was replaced by DIA. Lowry Air Force Base was a military flight training facility that ceased flight operations in 1966, with the base finally being closed in 1994. It is being used for residential purposes. Buckley Air Force Base, a former Air National Guard base, is the only military facility in the Denver area.
Making wines in volume and creating wines with personality might seem contradictory. But winemaker Marcelo Papa, who has overseen Casillero del Diablo since 1998, has managed this feat. In 2005, Marcelo Papa was named “Winemaker of the Year” by the Chilean Wine Guide for his ability to “create exceptional wines that are widely available in the marketplace, yet achieve extraordinary levels of quality in spite of high production levels.” Thanks to Marcelo Papa’s extraordinary winemaking talent, and the support and leadership of the Concha y Toro company, today Casillero del Diablo is a worldwide standard-bearer for premium quality Chilean wines – and the Legend of the Devil’s Cellar lives on!
The Devil has all the best tunes and, it would appear, a few of the best wines too...' This wine probably needs no introduction as its astonishing consistency year in year out has lead to a near-ubiquity. However we think its success is based on merit not marketing; Concha y Toro have some of Chile's best winemakers on their books. Grapefruit, lemon citrus and a delectably fresh finish

Apollo Hall opened soon after the city's founding in 1859 and staged many plays for eager settlers.[24] In the 1880s Horace Tabor built Denver's first opera house. After the start of the 20th century, city leaders embarked on a city beautification program that created many of the city's parks, parkways, museums, and the Municipal Auditorium, which was home to the 1908 Democratic National Convention and is now known as the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Denver and the metropolitan areas around it continued to support culture. In 1988, voters in the Denver Metropolitan Area approved the Scientific and Cultural Facilities Tax (commonly known as SCFD), a 0.1% (1 cent per $10) sales tax that contributes money to various cultural and scientific facilities and organizations throughout the Metro area.[91] The tax was renewed by voters in 1994 and 2004 and allows the SCFD to operate until 2018.[92]
The Central Valley (El Valle Central) of Chile is one of the most important wine-producing areas in South America in terms of volume. It is also one of the largest wine regions, stretching from the Maipo Valley (just south of Santiago) to the southern end of the Maule Valley. This is a distance of almost 250 miles (400km) and covers a number of climate types. The Central Valley wine region is easily (and often) confused with the geological Central Valley, which runs north–south for more than 620 miles (1000km) between the Pacific Coastal Ranges and the lower Andes.
A highway expansion and transit project for the southern I-25 corridor, dubbed T-REX (Transportation Expansion Project), was completed on November 17, 2006.[149] The project installed wider and additional highway lanes, and improved highway access and drainage. The project also includes a light rail line that traverses from downtown to the south end of the metro area at Lincoln Avenue.[150] The project spanned almost 19 miles (31 km) along the highway with an additional line traveling parallel to part of I-225, stopping just short of Parker Road.

The 2016 Casillero Del Diablo Rosé begins with an inviting and intriguing aroma of berry fruit, a hint of mint and spice. Tasting the wine reveals great flavor with very nice spice notes and good fresh acidity. It’s nicely sweet and very pleasant to drink. There’s a ton of one dimensional and impossibly sweet rosé out there but this one easily avoids both of those pitfalls. Tangy fruit leads into the dry, lasting and spicy finish. This is a great value for the price!
